Quality furniture for your children: the benefits of MDF

When choosing furniture for your children, quality, safety and durability are essential criterias. At Théo-Bébé, we are committed to providing furniture that meets these requirements using the highest quality materials and we have chosen to use mdf (Medium Density Fiberboard) because we are convinced that it is the best choice for your children's furniture.

The difference between mdf and chipboard panels

mdf and chipboard are materials commonly used in furniture manufacturing. Although they may seem similar, they have significant differences in composition, properties and applications. MDF is made from high density compressed wood fibers with resin. This process produces a homogeneous, smooth and dense material, which is particularly suitable for quality furniture. Chipboard is made from coarse wood particles bonded together by a synthetic resin. This material is therefore less dense than mdf and has a less smooth surface, which can limit certain applications.

Here are some of the other big differences between chipboard and mdf that convinced us to use mdf for our Théo-Bébé furniture:

  • Finish and aesthetics: mdf, with its smooth surface, provides a high-quality finish, ideal for paints and veneers. At Théo-Bébé, we exploit this characteristic to offer beautiful and safe furniture, with water-based paint and solid wood veneer. Chipboard has a rougher surface which can lead to a final quality that is often lower than that of mdf.
  • Durability and resistance: the density of mdf gives it excellent resistance to daily wear, scratches and impacts. It is also less likely to deform under the influence of humidity, unlike chipboard which is more likely to crumble and deform, especially in the presence of humidity.
  • Applications: due to its versatility and resistance, mdf is used in the manufacture of high-quality furniture, such as at Théo-Bébé. Chipboard is used mainly for lower quality furniture or non-visible elements.

Why did we choose mdf for our Théo-Bébé furniture?
At Théo-Bébé, we have chosen to use mdf for our furniture because of its many advantages guaranteeing quality, safety and aesthetics.

  • Quality and durability: mdf is known for its strength and durability. Unlike chipboard, it does not crumble easily and is more resistant to impacts. This robustness is essential for children's furniture, which is often subjected to intensive use. The mdf we chose to use is made from rubber trees grown in an environmentally friendly manner. We chose to use mdf carb-P2 meeting American standards because it contains a very low level of formaldehyde: 4.1mg/100g (tested by an independent laboratory), which is well below European E1 standards (maximum 8mg/100g). 100g).
  • Smooth surface and finish: the smooth surface of mdf allows for impeccable finishes. At Théo-Bébé, we use non-toxic water-based paints on our mdf or solid wood furniture, guaranteeing an elegant and safe appearance for your children. mdf panels also lend themselves well to original cutouts and designs, offering greater creative flexibility.
  • Resistance to humidity: mdf has better resistance to humidity than chipboard, making it more suitable for environments where variations in humidity can be frequent. This ensures increased longevity of our furniture, even in less ideal conditions.
  • Safety: safety is our priority at Théo-Bébé. The mdf we use is certified to be free of harmful substances and meets the highest safety standards. By choosing our furniture, you can be sure that your children are surrounded by safe and healthy materials.

Théo-Bébé’s commitment to quality

At Théo-Bébé, each piece of furniture is designed with constant attention to quality and safety. Our choice to use mdf for our products comes from our desire to offer the best to our customers.

Here are some examples of our mdf furniture and their unique features:

  • Our 60 x 120 cm and 70 x 140 cm baby beds: many of our beds are made of solid wood and mdf, to provide robust and durable beds that ensure a safe and healthy sleeping environment.
  • Our wardrobe, chests of drawers and changing tables: most often combining solid wood and mdf, our cabinets, chests of drawers and even changing tables also offer practicality, aesthetics and durability.

The choice of materials for your children's furniture is crucial to guarantee their safety, health and well-being. Mdf, with its many qualities, far surpasses chipboard in terms of durability, finish and resistance. At Théo-Bébé, we are committed to using only the best materials, such as mdf, to offer superior quality furniture that meets the needs of children and parents. Investing in Théo-Bébé furniture means choosing quality, safety and aesthetics to create spaces where your children can grow and flourish in complete peace of mind.
